Whether you are saving space with a compact bar fridge or after a feature-rich design like a side by side or French door model, Midea Homes has a fridge and freezer for every NZ home.
We stock a wide range of fridges and freezers to suit every lifestyle and space. Our line runs from compact, handy bar fridges through to spacious side by side and French door fridges with modern styling. If you need extra freezer storage, we also carry upright and chest freezers for frozen goods, plus beverage and wine coolers to keep drinks chilled and ready to serve.
The best fridge depends on your kitchen space, household size and how you shop. Here is how the main types compare:
Fridge capacity is measured in litres. As a general guide, allow around 150L for the first two people and roughly 50L for each additional person, then adjust up if you shop weekly or batch cook.
| Household | Suggested capacity |
|---|---|
| 1 to 2 people | 200L to 300L |
| 3 to 4 people | 300L to 450L |
| 5 or more | 450L and above |
Before buying, measure the width, height and depth of the space, and leave a small gap around the unit for ventilation and for the doors to open fully.
What fridge size fits my kitchen?
Measure your cavity width, height and depth first, then choose a model that leaves a few centimetres of clearance on each side and at the back for airflow.
Which fridge type is most energy efficient?
Look at the energy rating label on each model rather than the format alone, since efficiency varies within every type.
Do you have extra freezer storage?
Yes. Add an upright freezer or chest freezer for bulk frozen goods.
Double door fridge is a name used for several different layouts. Each one keeps the fridge and freezer behind separate doors, but they differ in where the freezer sits, how wide they are and how much they hold. This is how the layouts in our range compare.
| Layout | Where the freezer sits | Widths in our range | Capacities in our range | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Top mount | Top compartment, fridge below | 480mm to 710mm | 125L to 415L | Narrower spaces and a simple everyday layout |
| Bottom mount | Lower section, fridge at eye level | 545mm to 595mm | 253L to 325L | Households that use fresh food more often than frozen |
| Side by side | Full height door next to the fridge door | 895mm to 910mm | 513L to 700L | Wider kitchens and households that need a large freezer |
| Cross door (French door style) | Behind its own doors in a four door layout | 833mm | 470L | Wider kitchens that want a four door layout and a water dispenser |
A bottom mount fridge freezer puts the fridge at eye level and the freezer underneath, so the food used every day is the easiest to see and reach. There are three bottom mount models in our range today.
| Model | Capacity | Fridge / freezer | Size (W x D x H) | Cooling | Energy rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Imprasio IMFF253SS | 253L gross | 144L / 86L | 545 x 620 x 1660mm | Total No Frost | See listing |
| Midea MDRB424FGM46AP | 309L | 224L / 85L | 595 x 630 x 1880mm | Air cooling, automatic defrost | 3 stars, 345kWh per year |
| Toshiba GR-RB410WE-PMM(06) | 325L | 235L / 90L | 595 x 687 x 1724mm | Total No Frost, 2 Flex Zones | 4 stars |
Check height as well as width. At 1880mm the Midea 309L is the tallest of the three, so measure the space under any overhead cupboard. The Imprasio 253L is 545mm wide and 1660mm high for tighter spaces, and the Toshiba 325L has the largest freezer of the three at 90L. On all three models door reversal must be carried out by a technician and may incur an additional charge, so decide on the hinge side before delivery.
The household guide above shows how many litres to look for. The next step is making sure the fridge fits the space. These are the listed sizes of the household fridges and fridge freezers in our range, grouped by the width they need.
| Width | Models (W x D x H as listed) | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 550mm | Imprasio 125L top mount (480 x 510 x 1120mm), Imprasio 181L top mount (545 x 555 x 1340mm), Midea 237L upright fridge (550 x 550 x 1420mm), Midea MEET 236L top mount (545 x 610 x 1525mm), Imprasio 247L top mount (545 x 560 x 1670mm), Imprasio 253L bottom mount (545 x 620 x 1660mm) | 125L to 253L |
| 595mm to 600mm | Midea 238L upright (595 x 632 x 1722mm), Midea 309L bottom mount (595 x 630 x 1880mm), Toshiba 325L bottom mount (595 x 687 x 1724mm), Midea 338L top mount (595 x 695 x 1724mm), Imprasio 331L upright fridge (600 x 590 x 1725mm) | 238L to 338L |
| 700mm to 710mm | Imprasio 415L top mount in white (700 x 680 x 1780mm) or stainless steel (710 x 685 x 1780mm) | 415L |
| 833mm to 910mm | Midea 470L cross door (833 x 653 x 1775mm), Midea 548L side by side (895 x 690 x 1765mm), Imprasio 513L side by side (910 x 670 x 1775mm), Imprasio 592L side by side (910 x 730 x 1770mm), Midea Space Master 700L side by side (910 x 735 x 1775mm) | 470L to 700L |
When measuring, take the width at the narrowest point of the space, the height to the underside of any overhead cupboard, and the depth from the wall to the front edge of the benchtop so you know how far the fridge will stand out. Leave the ventilation clearance listed in the user manual, allow room for the doors to open fully, and check the delivery route through doorways, halls and stairs.
The best fridge freezer for a home is the one that fits the space and matches how the household shops and cooks. Five checks help narrow the choice.
If there is already a fridge freezer at home and more room is needed, a single door upright fridge or upright freezer can sit alongside it. The Imprasio 331L upright fridge has a 5-star energy rating, and the Midea 238L upright can be set to run as either a fridge or a freezer.
Is a double door fridge the same as a French door fridge?
Not always. Double door is a general term for fridge freezers with separate fridge and freezer doors, which includes top mount, bottom mount and side by side models. A French door fridge has two doors side by side on the fridge section. Our Midea 470L cross door fridge freezer uses a four door layout with a 301L fridge and a 169L freezer.
Is a bottom mount or top mount fridge freezer better?
It depends on how the fridge is used. A bottom mount keeps fresh food at eye level, which suits households that open the fridge far more often than the freezer. A top mount puts the freezer up high, and in our range top mount models start from 480mm wide and 125L, which suits compact kitchens.
Which fridges fit a 600mm wide space?
Look at models listed at 595mm to 600mm wide. In our range these are the Midea 309L and Toshiba 325L bottom mount, the Midea 338L top mount, and the Imprasio 331L and Midea 238L uprights. Check the ventilation clearance in the user manual first, as a model close to the width of the space may not leave the gap it needs.
Can the fridge doors be reversed?
Many of our fridges have reversible doors. On the bottom mount models, door reversal must be carried out by a technician and may incur an additional charge, so check the hinge side you need before delivery.
What warranty comes with these fridges?
The Midea, Imprasio and Toshiba household fridges and fridge freezers in this range are listed with a 3-year warranty, subject to warranty terms.
